All of us in GIS are constantly faced with the challenge of providing information to the end user. Sometimes, that information consists of a printed map showing orthophotography and things such as property outlines. Those are the easy ones! Sometimes, planners, property owners, or engineers want to see what the land was like prior to the beginning of our GIS; they want to compare features from aerial photography that was flown in 1951 with what was flown last Spring; they want to see who owned what property in that same area in 1886. These are the requests that are challenging, and my presentation will outline how Clinton County, Ohio, has done a superb job in making historical mapping information part of a 21st century GIS.
