Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 10:50 AM - Track 4

MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including transportation, land use, and environmental planning to identify priorities, develop public policy and implement collaborative strategies to improve the quality of life and economic vitality throughout the Miami Valley.

Over the years, MVRPC has been increasingly using various planning support systems (PSS) to facilitate the planning process at the regional level. GIS, as an integral part of MVRPC’s PSS, provides vehicles to facilitate better decision-making, information sharing and public engagement. In recognition of these efforts, MVRPC’s GIS program received the “OGRIP Best Practices Award” in 2007.

The session will highlight the use of GIS as a major component of planning support system technologies and how it is used in the regional planning process with examples from MVRPC’s Regional Land Use Planning Initiative known as Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region.
